ABOUT US

The Story Behind Plum Wings

Plum Wings began with a deeply personal experience.

Shortly after relocating to a new city, the founder of Plum Wings discovered she was expecting her second child. With no close friends or family nearby, she navigated pregnancy and prepared to welcome her baby without the support system she had previously known.

Her delivery became a traumatic and medically complex experience that required emergency surgery. Recovery was long and difficult, yet she still had to care for a newborn and an older child while trying to regain her strength.

During that period, she searched online for help and found someone who agreed to provide support. But on the day the person was scheduled to begin, she simply did not show up. With no formal process or agency to turn to, the founder was left without the help she had been counting on at a time when she needed it most.

The experience also raised a bigger question: How could families know who they were inviting into their homes? Finding someone online was easy. Knowing whether that person was dependable, properly screened and genuinely suited to the family’s needs was much harder.

That season revealed a wider need. Families deserved more than an online profile or an informal agreement. They needed a thoughtful and accountable way to find, screen and hire the right people for their homes, with guidance throughout the process and support when a placement did not work out.

The founder’s professional background in coordinating care and supporting individuals and families gave her a unique understanding of both sides of that need. Families wanted confidence, guidance and accountability, while qualified candidates needed meaningful opportunities with employers who respected their skills and valued their contributions.

Plum Wings was created to bring those two sides together through a thoughtful, structured and dependable placement process.

The agency also benefits from Human Resources expertise that informs its approach to candidate screening and selection, strengthening its ability to identify suitable candidates and provide families with the information they need to make confident hiring decisions.

Today, Plum Wings Family Care Agency is a licensed Alberta employment agency specializing in the placement of nannies, caregivers and household support professionals. We take time to understand each family’s needs, identify suitable candidates and guide families through the placement process with greater clarity and confidence.

Plum Wings does not directly employ the candidates it places. Instead, we help families find and hire the right person for their household, while each family remains the employer and makes the final hiring decision. Our support continues through the transition, helping families and their new hire move into the placement with greater confidence.

What began with one mother’s search for dependable support has grown into a commitment to helping other families find it with greater confidence, structure and accountability.

At the heart of Plum Wings is a simple belief: every family’s needs are different, and finding the right support begins with finding the right person.

FAQ

We place nannies, newborn care specialists, caregivers, senior support professionals, disability support workers, housekeepers, family assistants, house managers and other household support professionals based on each family’s needs.

Start by telling us what you’re looking for. We review your staffing needs and preferences, search and screen suitable candidates, and present eligible profiles for your consideration. You choose who you would like to interview and make the final hiring decision.

Yes. Screening is an important part of our placement process. Requirements may vary by role, but can include identity and eligibility verification, interviews, reference checks, relevant credentials and criminal record/vulnerable sector checks where applicable. We clearly communicate the screening completed for candidates presented to you.

The family or hiring client becomes the employer and is responsible for wages, payroll, applicable deductions, employment standards, and other employer obligations. Plum Wings will support you through the placement and transition process, providing guidance to help you move confidently from candidate selection to welcoming your new hire into your home.

Placement timelines vary depending on the role, schedule, location, qualifications and other requirements. We focus on finding suitable candidates rather than promising a specific placement date.

Depending on the placement package selected, your placement includes a specified replacement-guarantee period. If the placement ends within that period and the applicable terms are met, Plum Wings will assist with a replacement search.

Yes. We can assist with temporary/short-term and permanent/long-term placements, including full-time, part-time, live-in and live-out arrangements, depending on candidate availability and the requirements of the role.

No. Plum Wings is a placement agency and does not directly provide medical or home-care services. However, where a family requires medically trained or regulated care, we can assist with recruiting and placing appropriately qualified healthcare professionals based on the needs of the position. The family remains the employer, and any regulated professional is responsible for practising within their applicable professional scope and requirements.
