Household Support Staffing

Find the Right Support for Your Home

Running a household can involve a lot – cleaning, laundry, meals, errands, children’s schedules, appointments, transportation, household organization, maintenance, and countless everyday responsibilities.

Whether you need someone to help keep your home clean, make family life easier, manage personal tasks, oversee household operations, prepare meals, provide transportation, or combine household responsibilities with childcare, Plum Wings can help you find the right person for the role.

We recruit, screen, and match household professionals based on your needs and support you through the placement process and transition.

What Kind of Household Support Are You Looking For?

Household roles can sometimes overlap, and you don’t need to know the perfect job title before contacting us.

Tell us what you need help with, and we’ll help you define the position and identify the type of professional who may be the best fit.

  • Housekeeper

For households that primarily need hands-on help keeping the home clean, tidy, and well maintained.

Responsibilities may include:

  • General cleaning
  • Laundry and ironing
  • Changing linens
  • Kitchen and bathroom cleaning
  • Tidying and organizing
  • Other agreed household upkeep

For example: If your main concern is keeping up with cleaning, laundry, linens, and general household upkeep, you’re most likely looking for a Housekeeper.

  • Family Assistant

Think of a Family Assistant as an extra pair of hands for busy family life.

This role is ideal when the support you need extends beyond cleaning and involves helping with the practical tasks that keep your family’s everyday routine moving.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Grocery shopping and errands
  • School or activity pickups
  • Meal preparation
  • Family scheduling
  • Children’s activities
  • Returns and household shopping
  • Appointment coordination
  • Household organization
  • Other everyday family tasks

For example: If you’re thinking, “I need someone to pick up the kids, buy groceries, return packages, prepare dinner, and help me stay on top of family appointments,” you’re probably looking for a Family Assistant.

  • Personal Assistant

A Personal Assistant focuses more on supporting an individual with personal and administrative responsibilities.

Rather than primarily managing the household or family routine, this person helps organize the day-to-day affairs of an individual.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Calendar management
  • Scheduling appointments
  • Correspondence
  • Reservations and bookings
  • Travel arrangements
  • Personal errands
  • Research
  • Paperwork and administration
  • Personal organization

For example: If you’re thinking, “I need someone to manage my calendar, book my appointments, organize travel, handle correspondence, make reservations, and help me stay organized,” a Personal Assistant may be the better fit.

  • House Manager

A House Manager focuses on coordinating and overseeing the operation of the household.

This is generally a higher-responsibility household role for families who need someone to take greater ownership of making sure things around the home are organized and running properly.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Coordinating household schedules
  • Managing household supplies
  • Scheduling maintenance and repairs
  • Coordinating contractors and vendors
  • Managing deliveries and household services
  • Organizing household systems
  • Coordinating other household staff where applicable
  • Overseeing general household operations

For example: If you’re thinking, “I need someone to make sure this house runs properly — coordinate the cleaner, call the plumber, schedule repairs, manage household supplies, and stay on top of everything that needs to happen around the home,” you’re likely looking for a House Manager.

  • Nanny-Housekeeper

A Nanny-Housekeeper combines childcare with hands-on household work.

Unlike a traditional nanny whose household responsibilities are generally centered around the children, this position includes agreed responsibilities for the wider household as well.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Childcare and supervision
  • Children’s routines and activities
  • General cleaning
  • Family laundry
  • Tidying and organization
  • Meal preparation
  • School runs
  • Other agreed household duties

For example: If you’re thinking, “I need someone to care for my children, but I also need help with cleaning, laundry, tidying, and preparing meals,” a Nanny-Housekeeper may be the right position.

  • Nanny-House Manager

A Nanny-House Manager combines childcare with household management.

The key difference between this role and a Nanny-Housekeeper is the type of household responsibility involved.

A Nanny-Housekeeper is generally more hands-on with cleaning and household chores, while a Nanny-House Manager takes greater responsibility for organizing, coordinating, and helping manage the household alongside childcare.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Childcare
  • Children’s schedules and activities
  • Family calendar coordination
  • Household organization
  • Managing household supplies
  • Scheduling appointments
  • Coordinating vendors and contractors
  • Organizing maintenance and repairs
  • Managing household logistics
  • Other agreed household-management responsibilities

For example: If you’re thinking, “I need someone to care for my children, but while they’re at school, I also need that person coordinating appointments, household schedules, supplies, repairs, and vendors,” you’re probably looking for a Nanny-House Manager.

  • Family Cook

For households looking for someone to take responsibility for regular meal preparation.

The position can be structured around your family’s schedule, food preferences, dietary requirements, and the number of meals or days of support required.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Meal planning
  • Grocery coordination or shopping
  • Food preparation
  • Cooking family meals
  • Preparing meals in advance
  • Kitchen organization related to meal preparation
  • Accommodating agreed dietary requirements

For example: If your main need is having someone plan and prepare regular meals for your household, you’re likely looking for a Family Cook.

  • Private / Family Driver

For families looking for dependable transportation support as a dedicated household responsibility.

Responsibilities may include:

  • School and daycare transportation
  • Appointments
  • Children’s activities
  • Airport transportation
  • Family errands
  • Transportation for family members
  • Other scheduled trips

Where driving is an essential responsibility, applicable driver’s licence and driving-record verification can form part of the screening process.

For example: If you primarily need someone to handle school runs, appointments, activities, and other regular family transportation, you’re likely looking for a Private / Family Driver.

Family Assistant, Personal Assistant or House Manager?

These positions can overlap, so the easiest way to understand the difference is to consider who or what the person is primarily supporting.

Family Assistant – Supports Everyday Family Life

Think:

“I need help with school pickups, groceries, errands, meal preparation, family appointments, and keeping our everyday routine moving.”

A Family Assistant is an extra pair of hands for the family.

Personal Assistant -Supports an Individual

Think:

“I need help managing my calendar, appointments, correspondence, bookings, travel, paperwork, and personal errands.”

A Personal Assistant helps an individual stay organized and manage personal or administrative responsibilities.

House Manager- Manages the Home

Think:

“I need someone to coordinate repairs, contractors, household supplies, service providers, schedules, and make sure everything around the home gets taken care of.”

A House Manager helps coordinate and oversee the household itself.

An Easy Way to Remember

Family Assistant = helps the family get things done.

Personal Assistant = helps an individual stay organized.

House Manager = helps keep the household running.

There can naturally be overlap between these positions. We focus on the actual responsibilities you need covered, rather than trying to force your household into a particular job title.

Nanny-Housekeeper or Nanny-House Manager?

Both positions combine childcare with responsibilities beyond traditional nanny duties, but the household component is different.

Nanny-Housekeeper

Childcare + hands-on household work

Think cleaning, laundry, tidying, meal preparation, and other agreed household chores alongside childcare.

Nanny-House Manager

Childcare + household coordination and management

Think schedules, household organization, supplies, appointments, vendors, maintenance coordination, and other household logistics alongside childcare.

If your position contains elements of both, that’s okay. We’ll help you define the responsibilities before beginning the search.

Household Staffing That Fits Your Life

Your household staffing arrangement can be structured around how much support you need and for how long.

  • Temporary / Short-Term

For support needed for a defined period — from a few days or weeks to several months.

This may be suitable during a move, recovery period, travel, school break, temporary schedule change, busy season, or other short-term circumstance.

  • Permanent / Long-Term

For consistent, ongoing household support without a predetermined end date.

  • Full-Time

For positions requiring 30 or more hours per week.

  • Part-Time

For positions requiring fewer than 30 hours per week, such as selected days each week, shorter shifts, or another recurring schedule.

  • Live-In

For suitable positions where the employee resides in the family home while working an agreed schedule.

Live-in does not mean 24/7 availability. Working hours, time off, accommodation, responsibilities, and other employment terms should be clearly established.

  • Live-Out

For employees who maintain their own residence and come to the household according to their agreed working schedule.

Not Sure Which Role You Need?

That’s completely fine.

You don’t need to decide whether you’re looking for a Housekeeper, Family Assistant, Personal Assistant, House Manager, Nanny-Housekeeper, Nanny–House Manager, or another household professional before contacting us.

Start by telling us what you actually need help with.

We’ll review the responsibilities, schedule, level of support, and skills you’re looking for and help you define the position before beginning the search.

More Than Finding a Résumé

Hiring someone to work inside your home requires more than finding someone who says they can do the job.

We work to understand your household, the responsibilities of the position, and the experience and qualities you’re looking for before identifying potential candidates.

  • Recruitment & Candidate Sourcing

We recruit candidates based on the responsibilities, schedule, experience, skills, and other requirements of your household position.

  • Candidate Interviews

Potential candidates are interviewed as part of our assessment process.

  • Experience & Reference Verification

Relevant employment experience, work history, and professional references may be reviewed and verified.

  • Background Screening

Applicable background screening and documentation are reviewed or coordinated based on the responsibilities of the position.

  • Qualification & Skill Verification

Where the position requires specific training, certifications, experience, or other qualifications, applicable information may be verified.

  • Role-Specific Screening

Additional screening may be completed where relevant to the position.

For example, a Private / Family Driver — or a Family Assistant, Nanny-Housekeeper, or Nanny–House Manager with driving responsibilities — may require applicable driver’s licence and driving-record verification.

  • Matching

We consider candidates’ experience, skills, availability, employment preferences, and suitability for the responsibilities of the position alongside your household’s requirements.

  • Candidate Presentation & Interviews

Suitable candidate profiles are presented for your consideration. You decide who you’d like to meet, and we support you through the interview and selection process.

  • You Make the Final Hiring Decision

You choose the household professional you believe is the right fit for your family and home.

  • Placement & Transition Support

Our involvement doesn’t simply end when you’ve selected a candidate.

If placement-related questions or concerns arise during this period, you can reach out to Plum Wings for support.

  • Replacement Guarantee

Even after a thoughtful recruitment and screening process, a placement may not always work out as expected.

Depending on the placement package selected, your placement includes a replacement guarantee period.

If the placement ends within the applicable guarantee period and the conditions of the guarantee are met, Plum Wings will conduct a replacement search in accordance with your Placement Agreement.

Available guarantee periods may include:

30 Days • 60 Days • 90 Days • 120 Days • 150 Days • Lifetime

The applicable guarantee period, eligibility requirements, exclusions, and replacement terms are determined by the placement package selected and your Placement Agreement.

You Remain in Control of Who You Hire

Plum Wings is an employment agency. We provide recruitment, screening, matching, placement, and applicable post-placement support, while you make the final hiring decision.

You review candidates, conduct interviews, and choose the person you believe is the right fit for your household.

Once hired, the successful candidate becomes your employee, not an employee of Plum Wings.

As the employer, you establish the employee’s responsibilities, schedule, compensation, and employment terms and are responsible for applicable employer obligations.
